The building “Ex Stimmatine” was part of the ancient Retreat of the Immaculate and its origins date back to the ‘700. Over the years it was transformed from an aristocratic residence into an Orphanage, with consequent alterations related to the new use. The public tender for the competition included the project for the restoration and re-functionalization of the entire Complex. The architectural project was a direct consequence of the in-depth study and evaluation of the palace’s state of consistency. The new lower body acts as a filter between the new safety staircase that reaches the Chapel – the meeting room – on the second floor and the area on the first floor used as a bouvette.
The second body of the building was designed with a facade built with longitudinal elements in natural terracotta, connected by a grid in steel profiles bound to the main structure of new construction, and acts as a “full” contrast to the transparent glass panels.
